Gwaenysgor ACE Group

Established in 2007 the Ace Group (Arts, Community and Entertainment) is a non-profit making group with the aims of promoting opportunities for arts and crafts within Gwaenysgor and providing the community with a range of professional entertainment utilising the Arts Council for Wales “Night Out” scheme. Other ACE Group events have included a ‘Bookish Festival’, which resulted in the publication of the village poetry book ‘Forget Me Nots’, creative workshops, and a photographic calendar competition.

The Group also provides a framework to enable other informal groups to have access, via the Ace Group, to opportunities and grant funding without the need for their own ‘formal’ structure, which will in turn strengthen our sense of village community.

There are 2 -3 “Night Out” events per year, one of which is included in the annual Flintshire Artsfest programme. The scheme provides access to affordable first class professional entertainment subsidised by the Arts Council of Wales and, in our case, Flintshire County Council. Due to the limited seating space in our small Village Hall it would not be financially possible to hold these events without the financial subsidy provided by the Scheme. Events have included storytelling, drama, comedy, musicals and improvisation, and have all been sell out performances.
