The Village Hall was originally built as the Village School but since its closure in 1968 has been used as our village hall. It has become the centre of the village community where we hold most of our functions, and is hired out to various groups.
Gwaenysgor Village Hall has been awarded a grant of £40,000 by the Big Lottery Fund Wales towards an extension of the existing building to make a new meeting room and to extend and renew the existing kitchen. Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 13th March 2017 and will last several months. We intend to keep the hall open for normal activities during this period but there may be some disruption from time to time. We will issue regular updates.
Our Village Hall is run by the commitee as follows:
- Peter Humphrey Jones – Chair
- Susan Parry – Secretary
- Anne Roberts – Treasurer
- John Whiteway
- Jennifer Williams
- Dave Gladwin
- Rachel Parry
- Gaunor Fox
- Kaye Allen
- Lynwen Parry
- Beth Reddaway
The Hall is available for hire for parties etc., at a cost of £7.50 per hour. Please contact Lynwen; telephone 01745 854083 for more details.
The Hall is well used by various groups in the village, including the Co-op, the Choir, Art and Craft Club. Martial Arts, Conservation Group and the Church. We endeavour to keep the Hall in good repair and well equipped for any function that may be held. We are in the process of trying to obtain grants to update the kitchen.
If anyone has any ideas for events in the future, please contact a member of the committee as we are always open to any suggestions and the income all helps with the continued running costs.
Meetings are held in the Village Hall every third Tuesday of the month, in the evening.
By way of raising funds, we have the 100 Club. This costs £12 per annum to join and every month, we have a first, second and third prizewinner, if you are not a member of this club but wish to join, please contact a committee member.
